When you rent a car in Cebu, the biggest malls in the city are one of the first things you need to be familiar with. It is not even about shopping (especially with more people doing it online). Malls often serve as a point of reference for a lot of transportation routes. Some of them are even directly on the way to airports.
Cebu City is no different. Knowing where its four biggest malls are will make it easier for you to know your way around. And if you are meeting others from around town, then these malls will definitely be the fastest way to set up your first get-together.
#1. SM City Cebu
Address: Juan Luna Ave. cor. Cabahug and Kaoshiung Streets, North Reclamation Area, Cebu Port Center, Mabolo
Opening Hours: 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM (Mondays to Sundays)
Most Filipinos know the SM brand. And for Cebuanos, its first foothold is represented by SM City Cebu. Opened in 1993, it is the oldest of the Big Four.
A lot of things have changed (such as the construction of its Northwing area), but even the city’s oldest seniors have a lot of memories of the place. Furthermore, it is right next to the Radisson Blu Hotel, making the mall an even more convenient location for luxury travelers. SM’s own line of buses also offers transport directly from the airport to the mall.
#2. Ayala Center Cebu
Address: Cebu Business Park, Archbishop Reyes Ave.
Opening Hours: 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (Mondays to Sundays)
Ayala Center Cebu opened just a matter of months after SM City. That makes it the second oldest of the Big Four. It is known for being a bit more on the luxury and boutique side. Its cafes and bars are situated in a scenic area known as the Terraces.
The Ayala Center is also right at the heart of Business Park, which is still home to a number of old and new firms. And in recent years, a few condominiums have been raised up right next door.
#3. SM Seaside
Address: South Road Properties
Opening Hours: 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM (Mondays to Sundays)
The largest of the Big Four and the third largest mall in the whole country, SM Seaside has been one of Cebu City’s most ambitious real estate projects to date. Asides from the mall itself, there are still plans to further develop the surrounding areas.
And despite its age, the mall has already been host to a number of large conventions and indoor sporting events. It boasts one of the biggest cinemas in the city as well as an indoor skating rink at the top floor.
#4. Ayala Central Bloc
Address: I. Villa Street, Cebu IT Park
Opening Hours: 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (Sunday to Thursday) and 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM (Friday to Saturday)
While Ayala Central Bloc is the smallest and youngest of the quartet, its biggest draw is that it stands at the very center of Cebu’s bustling IT Park. That puts it within walking distance for countless BPO employees working there, along with no small number of condominium tenants.
Given its importance as the city’s premier outsourcing center, it is not unusual for visiting BPO executives to rent a car and spend their time driving to and from Central Bloc more often than even the larger and older malls.
So, the next time you rent a car in Cebu City and you still do not know the first place to meet up with friends or new business partners, then you can never go wrong with the local mall scene!
